Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the fastest way to show up when someone in your area searches for what you do. It's free and takes less than an hour to set up.
Step 1: Go to business.google.com
Sign in with your Google account and click "Manage now." Enter your business name exactly as you want it to appear.
Step 2: Choose Your Business Type
For contractors, select "Local business or place" and choose the most relevant category — like "General Contractor," "Roofing Contractor," or "Electrician."
Step 3: Add Your Service Area
If you travel to customers rather than having a storefront, select "I deliver goods and services to my customers" and enter your service zip codes or city names.
Step 4: Verify Your Business
Google will send a postcard to your address with a verification code. This takes 5–7 days. Once verified, your listing goes live.
Step 5: Complete Your Profile
Add photos of your work, your hours, your phone number, and a link to your website. Profiles with photos get 42% more direction requests. Don't skip this.
Step 6: Ask for Reviews
A business with 20 reviews outranks one with 2 reviews almost every time. Text your last 10 customers a direct link to leave a Google review.
